General Gardeners & Landscape Maintenance wanted

We are looking for 3 hard-working, reliable workers to join our client's high achieving garden and landscape maintenance team in rural Central Hawke's Bay.

Based in Central Hawkes Bay, our client is in search of enthusiastic, self-motivated, physically fit and trustworthy individuals to join their small, high achieving team. If you are a genuine hard worker who enjoys being outdoors and takes pride in a job well done, then this may be your ideal position.

There are 3 permanent postitions available:

General Gardener

  • Weeding, deadheading, pruning, planting, fertilising, spraying, mulching, trimming
  • Ability to use some power garden equipment when required
  • Min. 24 hrs per week

Gardener / Lawn Care Assistant

  • Weeding, deadheading, pruning, planting, fertilising, spraying, mulching, trimming, propagation, irrigation, mowing and lawn care, other general gardening duties and farm beautification work
  • Experience with power garden equipment, ride-on mowers and spray application would be beneficial
  • Full time - 40 hrs per week

Gardener / Landscape Labourer

  • Assisting with farm / garden / property maintenance, clearing and chipping trees, tidying areas around farm and gardens, weed eating, spreading mulch, planting, spraying, firewood, assisting other team members in other general and farm beautification duties as required.
  • Experience with tractors and powered garden equipment would be beneficial
  • Full time - 40 hrs per week

Having relevant experience is favourable, as is knowledge of horticulture and experience with outdoor power equipment, tractors and light utility vehicles, however being willing to learn, having a keen eye for detail, an upbeat attitude and being happy working alone or as part of a team is equally important.

The positions are ideally an immediate start, with some flexibility for working hours possible for the right applicants.  Please note, this role is situated approx. 20 minutes from Waipukurau / Waipawa and 50 minutes from Hastings.

Applicants will need to have NZ residency status or a valid work visa and will be subject to pre-employment checks including a Ministry of Justice check.

We recently employed the services of Able Personnel to assist us in our search for a new office/accounts person. Our decision to use a recruitment agency was mostly based on the need to find someone with the right qualifications for the role quickly, and not having available time to see to the entirety of the recruitment process.

After enlightening Able to the person we were seeking, Able advertised the position, met with the applicants, and then sent us a number of CVs so we could get a feel for the prospective employees and their skill sets. In preparation for the CVs, Able compiled reports from referees that had been contacted on our behalf, and required the applicants to complete skills tests relevant to the position. Since these tests and the results are quantifiable, we were able to compare the different applicants against each other and see who we believed to be the most skilled and suitable. From these CVs we then chose a number of people to interview.

Although this number was relatively small, it was still arduous and time consuming, and we were grateful that Able had done most of the ‘donkey work’ for us. It really was about finding the person with the right ‘fit’ for our company, which we believe we have done, and our new office person is settling in well. Throughout this process, communication was good via both emails and calls from Able to keep us up to date with progress on recruitment. Sonya was spot on with her recommendations and we found her to be a straight shooter which we appreciated. We would recommend Able to anyone requiring new employees.
